12,350 runners beat the Finishers record for the Valencia Half-Marathon
On Sunday, the 22nd of October, thousands of top athletes and amateurs ran the fastest 21,097.5-metre trial in Spain in the 27th edition of the Valencia Half-Marathon. The townsfolk turned out in force to cheer on the runners and give them support every step and kilometre of the way in a sport celebration that ended with a new Women’s World Record.
The Valencia trial, which is the only one in Spain with the IAAF Gold Label, began the week with record participation, featuring no fewer than 14,303 entries for the 27th edition (even though almost one thousand people did not attend The Runner’s Fair to pick up their bibs). The race ended with a record number of Finishers: 12,350. Once again, Spain’s best half-marathon reached new heights, setting both Women’s Spanish and World Records, and a new record for the number of Finishers.

The whole city turns out for Valencia’s Half-Marathon
The city’s commitment to the Valencia Half-Marathon could not be stronger. The public at the 37 support points cheered the half-marathon runners to the Finishing Line next to Valencia’s yacht haven.
For the fourth year in a row, the Valencia Half-Marathon has enjoyed the Running Fallero, that is to say, the fusion of Valencia’s two biggest public celebrations. In addition to 700 ‘falleros‘ (members of associations making huge papier mâché figures) running in the trial, the associations cheered on the half-marathon runners at 13 ‘Running Fallero’ support points along the whole circuit.
Support points for cheering on the runners were also provided by firms sponsoring the Half-Marathon, such as EDP, Cárnicas Serrano, and Mapfre, and those set up by Esperanza y Sonrisa (the charity chosen this year), and by Valencian clubs.
Valencia Basket (basketball club) also joined in the fun and supported the top athletes and amateur runners in the two-hour long trial. Corredor Mediterráneo (rail lobby group) was also present with its loudspeakers at the support point next to Estación del Norte (railway station), where members of the public were given turns at the microphone to cheer runners to the Finishing Line.
Volunteers — one of the jewels of our heritage
Over 600 volunteers played a key part in the Valencia Half-Marathon. Those in the latest edition of the trial, with the collaboration of groups from Pinturas Isaval (paint firm) and Luanvi (sportswear firm) cheered on and supported runners throughout the race and, above all, gave out a well-deserved Finisher’s Medal to all those who crossed the Finishing Line.
