There will be 210 support stations for runners in the Valencia Marathon in the 10-kilometre race

Valencia is a Marathon Party. The whole city takes part in the fun, with over 200,000 people in ‘Valencia – The Running City’ lining the streets to cheer the athletes on. There is a runners’ support point every 203 metres of the course.

‘FALLA’ GROUPS BOTH COMPETING AND CHEERING ON RUNNERS

▶ The atmosphere is fantastic, with runners being cheered on every step of the way — it is one of the things that makes Valencia’s Marathon unique. ‘Falla’ groups [‘Falla’ = huge papier mâché figures that are ritually burnt in Valencia’s world-famous festival] will cheer the runners on every yard of the way. The ‘Falla’ Association will line the streets to spur you on, with over twenty ‘Falla’ groups acting as cheerleaders.
‘Falla’ members will not only be cheering — some of them will be running too. The groups — whether cheering from the sidelines or taking part in the race — will compete for prizes for ‘The Most Energetic Support’, together with EDP’s ‘The Most Original Support’; ‘The Support with Most Members’.

THE CITY CENTRE: THE HEART OF THE MARATHON PARTY

▶ There will be various giant screens in the City Centre. CaixaBank [bank] is pulling out all the stops and will lay on 2 giant screens, entertainment and music for the general public along the first stretch of the course at Plaça de l’Ajuntament [City Hall Square] (km 28.9 of the Marathon, and km 6 of the 10-kilometre race). The EMT is sited in the central area of the square, with various activities. Another key point is Estació del Nord [main railway station] and the Plaça de Bous [bull ring]. There, EDP will set up screens and music and ‘El Corredor Mediterráneo’ will do its utmost to cheer runners on.

FINAL KILOMETRES: KEY POINTS
▶ Get ready to rock and roll! The last few kilometres will make your spirit soar. Valencia is famous for this final stretch. Renault will rise to the occasion with a big support point, laying on music, videos, messages spurring on the runners, an area for family and friends — this is a hot spot! (km 40.2 of the Marathon and km 8 of the 10-km race). You will move to the rhythm of Óscar Martínez, the famous DJ of ‘Los 40’ radio station nearby. There will also be Carlos Moreno of COPE [Spain’s Bishops very own radio station] to help you wing it right along the final stretch. Last but not least, as you steam up to the finishing line in The City of Arts and Sciences, Valencia Basket [basketball club] and Villarreal CF [football club] will be there to cheer you for the last few glorious yards.
