630 teams and 3,780 runners take part in Ekiden Valencia
The athletics tracks of Turia Stadium in Jardin del Turia will be filled this weekend with the Japanese spirit of the relay marathon Ekiden Valencia. The second edition of this original and attractive race will gather 630 teams to complete in teams of six relays the distance of 42,195 metres.
The heart of the race will once again be the tartan of Turia Stadium, which will announce the beginning of each relay and the delivery of the ribbon or ‘tasuki’ that each of the 3,780 runners must hand over to each other on each relay to complete the legendary distance of the Marathon on a series of approved routes along Jardin del Turia.
More female presence
Participation has increased on Ekiden Valencia’s second edition, gathering more participating teams and, especially, more female presence. More than 50% of the teams are mixed (with at least two women on it) and almost another 20% of the teams inscribed are completely formed by women. This means that almost 70% of the participating groups count with a woman.
The race, besides having specific classifications for the three different distances of 5,000, 10,000 and 7,195 metres, enable a classification to measure the best masculine, feminine and mixed teams.
