Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Marathon breaks registration record exceeding 10,530 runners by July 1st
The Trinidad Alfonso Valencia Marathon, organized by SD Correcaminos and the Valencian Government, continues to grow year on year. The 10, 530 runners registered have already broken the record set by the 2014 edition with still more than 3 months to go until registration closes. This year on the 15th of November, Valencia will be the place to be for international and Spanish runners.
The Trinidad Alfonso Valencia Half Marathon which takes place a month before the full marathon on the 18th of October is also already on the way to emulate its big brother and smash the record for total runners. This year the half marathon celebrates its 25th anniversary; with 6,585 runners already registered it will be a celebration of running not to be missed. The Valencia Half Marathon is not jus a celebration of running, it is also the place where elite athletes come to break records; last year Valencia was the fastest half marathon in the world, this was the 6th fastest half marathon of all time and the fastest Spanish half marathon in history.
Runner profiles
So, who is running in the Valencia events? The rise of international runners in Valencia has been a slow increase over many years building to a crescendo in 2014-2015. Of the runners already registered a staggering 2,700 of the total come form foreign shores, that’s 25.62%. The countries sending the most runners as of today are: Italy (967), Belgium (354), UK (311), France (309) and Holland (229).
The international runners will not only be mixing with runners from Valencia, the rest of Spain also makes up a big part of the event. Whilst 40.98% of runners are from Valencia there is 33.40% of runners who come from other parts of Spain: Madrid, Barcelona, Murcia, Albacete, Ciudad Real and Toledo are the Spanish cities that are represented most.
For its part, the half marathon also shows a strong international presence in its numbers that make up 10.4% of the event. The countries most represented at the half marathon are: Italy (318), Holland (127), UK (111), France (61) and Belgium (32).
More women running every year
The increase of female runners is something the Trinidad Alfonso Valencia Marathon is particularly proud of. In the marathon 13% of runners are women (1,344 runners) and in the half marathon women represent 23% of the total with 1,529 runners.
