The Valencia Marathon confirms that the next edition of the event will be held on the 2nd of December 2018
The organisers of the Valencia-Trinidad Alfonso EDP Marathon — SD Correcaminos [running club] and Valencia City Council — have decided on a slight change of date for the 2018 event and for the trials held in subsequent years. Accordingly, the 38th Valencia Marathon will be held on the 2nd of December 2018.
The reason for the change is to avoid a clash in the third weekend in November between Spain’s best Marathon — a regular fixture for several years — and the new date for the Valencia Region’s Motorbike Grand Prix on the Ricardo Tormo de Cheste Circuit. Holding both events on the same weekend would reduce attendance at both and stretch the city’s infrastructure and catering facilities to breaking point.
The organisers have therefore decided to push the Valencia Marathon back a couple of weeks to avoid clashes with both the Motorbike GP and with other marathons held elsewhere in Spain. The new date should both boost the event’s international popularity and ease Spanish runners’ summer preparation for the Marathon.
The Half-Marathon will be pushed back to the end of October
The Valencia-Trinidad Alfonso EDP Half-Marathon , held by SD Correcaminos [running club], will also be held slightly later in 2018. The Half-Marathon will be pushed back a week, to the last Sunday in October. Thus the only IAAF Gold Label Half-Marathon in Spain will take place on the 28th of October 2018.
This will ensure the Half-Marathon and Marathon events are kept reasonably close. This is important because many runners use the Half-Marathon to test themselves in preparation for the full Marathon. The record number of entries from both home and abroad shows that the Half-Marathon has also become well-established as an event in its own right.
The 10-kilometre Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Race held in parallel with The Marathon
The 2nd of December 2018 will thus also see the holding of the 10-kilometre Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Race. The trial will be held at the same time but will not share any of the Marathon circuit. The 10-kilometre race will allow those not taking part in The Valencia Marathon the chance to run on the day. The start and finish lines will also be in Valencia’s Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències [City of Arts and Sciences].
