119 TRINIDAD ALFONSO FOUNDATION � FUNDACIÓN TRINIDAD ALFONSO The Valencia Marathon has been associated with the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation for seven years now. It is an entity that stands out for its promotion of sport in the Valencian Region (Spain) and, especially, for its support for the world of running. It started in 2012 with its contribution to the Half Marathon Valencia, of which it was the main collaborator that year. Two years later, it did the same with the Marathon and also re-named it. These were the first steps of a non-profit organisation presided by the Valencian businessman Juan Roig. In addition to that contribution to the big races of the city, the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation promoted the movement Valencia City of Running, which brings together and organises the runners world. Among its performances in this field, perhaps the most outstanding one is the construction of an exclusive circuit for runners in the Turia garden. An infrastructure in which the foundation invested two million euros, in addition to committing to its maintenance for ten years. Beyond running, the aim of the Fundación Trinidad Alfonso is to bring the Culture of Effort and its values throughout the Comu- nitat Valenciana, using sport as an example. With this objective, the Foundation aims to turn the Region into a first-rate sporting reference point, the true Comunitat de l’Esport (Sport Community). It is precisely this brand that aims to bring together, organise and promote the sporting events and initiatives that take place in the region. From the great events that can be held to the sup- port for athletes who are striving to be in the next Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo. The Foundation is one of the vehicles through which Juan Roig carries out his sports patronage work, but there is more. For more than 30 years, Roig has been supporting Valencia Basketball, the basketball team of the city of Valencia. Apart from supporting the first team, he has made an important commitment to the women's section and the quarry. Two years ago he built a facility to guarantee the future of this sport, L'Alqueria del Basket, the home of basketball for future generations.
